How To Do A Photo Backup On Your Phone

We love our smartphones for a good reason: they provide everything we need and more in a single, small, elegant package. It’s no surprise that smartphone ownership has been on the rise and today, around 77% of Americans own one.

One of the most popular features on a smartphone is the camera and it’s one of the reasons for its rising popularity. The focus on providing better cameras has a huge impact on consumer interest. That’s because we love to use our phones to capture both mundane and once-in-a-lifetime moments on a daily basis.

For this reason, knowing how to do a photo backup on your phone is essential. The last thing you want to do is lose your photos in case your phone is damaged or broken. That’s why today I want to show you how to backup the photos on your phone easily and without too much work.

Google Backup

Google has made it super easy for Android users to backup all their photos. They offer 15 GB of free space, and if you need more, you will find it at an affordable price. To backup your photos with Google, just go to the Google Photos app and make sure you’ve signed into your account.

Once you’re there, go to Menu, then Settings, and turn on the option of Back Up & Sync. That’s it! That’s all you need to do to make sure your photos are constantly backed up in the cloud. Make sure you check the app occasionally to make sure your photos are being backed up, but otherwise the app will do this automatically every time you take a new photo or save an image.

iCloud Backup

Every Apple user has 5 GB of free iCloud storage to backup their photos. However, this is not enough for many, but you can upgrade to 50 GB up to 2 TB of photo storage for a price. Before we go through the backup process on iCloud, you should know that backed up photos can still disappear from the cloud if you delete them from your device. For this reason, many people choose alternate methods, so it’s something to keep in mind.

It’s always good to back up your photos, so go to Settings, select your Apple ID and then click on iCloud. Finally, choose which apps you can use with iCloud and turn on the Photos option, to enable the backup. If you don’t have enough storage, simply go to Manage Storage on Settings and purchase more storage space.

Google Photos Backup on Apple Devices

If you don’t trust your iCloud backup and you want the Google Photos backup but you have an Apple device, don’t worry! You can still do it. All you need to do is download the Google Photos app, launch it and create a Google account if you don’t have one or sign in if you do. Click on More, go to Settings, then click on Uploads and select the Auto-Save option to make sure your photos are automatically backed up.

Now that we’ve seen the many different ways you can backup your photos on your phone, the question arises: is one back up enough? What if you have precious photos you never want to lose, such as your wedding photos? Well, the best thing you can do to make absolutely sure your photos are safe is to use more than one backup service. Cloud services aren’t invulnerable to hacking or data loss, so even though it’s less likely, it can still happen and you should prepare.

Choose more than one backup service and you’ll be able to keep all your photos safe. It doesn’t matter which services you choose, just make sure you trust them with your files and don’t wait to get this done. The earlier you back up your photos, the better it will be. Make sure you go through the backup process as you should, and then you won’t have to worry about losing precious photos ever again.

Losing photos is one of the worst things that can happen because it truly feels like you’ve lost something important. Avoid that by backing up your photos today!

Here’s What USB Flash Drives Do

If you work on multiple computers or if you’re upgrading, your main concern is probably switching between computers without losing important files and documents. To do this without losing anything valuable, all you need to do is us a flash drive.

USB flash drives are super useful, especially if you want to have a backup of your files that’s not on the cloud. They’re easy storage solutions, but if you don’t understand them, here’s what you need to know about how they work!

Flash drives allow you to take files from one computer and store them so you can take them somewhere else. They make it super easy for you transfer data because all you have to do is connect the USB flash drive into the computer via the USB port and then copy all the files you need.

Flash drives work with flash memory, which is what keeps your files stored and safe. Memory is commonly referred to as RAM, which stands for Random Access Memory, but this kind of computer memory only works with a power source. This means that it uses electrical patterns to “remember” the data and keep it safe. If the power goes out, then you risk losing everything.

Flash memory, on the other hand, is a kind of Read-Only Memory or ROM, which doesn’t require electricity to do its job. Flash memory chips, which are found inside your USB flash drive, are designed to keep the files save with or without power. It also allows you to add and remove files as you need.

In other words, a flash drive needs flash memory to pull up all your files every time you connect it to the computer. And it won’t “forget” what you’ve stored even if it’s not connected to a power source. For this reason, USB flash drives are extremely common. However, not many people know how they work, until now.

A flash drive is composed of a Printed Circuit Board or PCB, which is cover in a plastic casing, and as USB connector, which comes with a removable cap. This connector is inserted into the computer’s USB port and then it creates a communication between the computer and the drive. The computer will recognize your USB flash drive as a separate hard drive and it will allow you to move files from your hard drive to the flash drive. When you do that, the flash memory chip will store the data and once you’re done, all you have to do is safely remove the device.

What USB flash drives do is handle the work of storing all your files. This means you won’t have to create backups or run security checks, all you need to do is transfer all your sensitive and important files to the USB flash drive. Once it’s there, all your data will be safe, no matter if you connect the flash drive to a power source or not. It will never get rid of your information unless you delete it yourself and it won’t crash.

The way a flash drive works might be a little confusing fro many, but actually using ta USB flash drive is not difficult at all. This is why it’s so popular when it comes to storing files, data, photos and videos. Anyone can use a flash drive and it’s the easiest way to keep files safe or move them from one computer to another.

Another thing that makes USB flash drives so great is that they’re extremely portable because they’re small and lightweight. They come in many sizes, from 8 GB to 124 GB or more, and you will be able to save as much data as you want. You will never be at risk of losing the files you’ve saved in your flash drive and that’s the best feeling in the world. The last thing you want to do is lose your precious information, photos or files.

So, if you want to make your life a little bit easier, using USB flash drives is key. This way you’ll never have to worry about losing your files and you can take it with you wherever you go so you can always access the information you need!

What You Need to Know About Common Identity Theft Scams

The digital age is incredibly convenient for the most part. However, it does have unique risks you need to prepare for. Identity theft is one of the most common risks and cyber criminals are always looking for ways to steal people’s information.

If you want to fight identity theft, then you need to know about the most common identity theft scans. This will allow you to prepare and make things harder for cyber criminals. Identity theft prevention is all about knowing what these criminals are after so you can do something about it. So, without further ado here are the most common identity theft scams to keep an eye on.

  1. Senior Identity Theft

Senior citizens are the most common targets for identity theft and that’s because they usually have larger saving accounts, retirement pensions, they receive different benefits and they tend to be ignorant of technology so they’re less likely for them to notice something’s wrong. They also don’t check their credit score that often, so it’s less likely cyber criminals will get caught.

Senior identity theft scams can happen in different ways. The most common one being through a conning scheme where criminals pretend to be someone else and prompt seniors to share sensitive personal information. This kind of scam costs over $36 billion every year and a senior is a victim of this every four minutes. To avoid this from happening to you, don’t divulge any sensitive personal information to anyone on the phone, online or via the mail unless you’ve made sure you’re talking to someone official.

  1. Mail Identity Theft

Mailboxes are one of the most vulnerable points for offline identity theft. Criminals who are after your identity will use the postal system in many different ways and because the mail has so much traffic, it’s easy for criminals to disappear. The most common type of mail identity theft involves re-routing someone’s packages or letters.

They do this by filling a Change of Address form in the Post Office. All they need is your address, which they can get from discarded mail, and then they’ll be able to fill out the form and have your mail and packages sent to a different direction. If you notice this is happening to you and you don’t do something straight away, you risk these criminals gaining more and more personal information by pretending to be you.

Another common mail identity theft scam involves stealing your mail, which can be hard to notice. To avoid both of these things from happening, make sure you destroy your mail properly before you toss it out and get your mail as soon as possible instead of leaving it out there overnight.

  1. Voice Phishing

Voice phishing, which is also known as vishing, is an identity theft scam where criminals will work hard to convince you to give them your personal information willingly. It’s similar to phishing, which involves criminals sending you emails or forms to request information under false pretenses. This is why it’s so difficult to detect because they will act as legitimate professionals from trusted companies.

Some vishing scams involve telling the victim their identity has already been stolen so you’re convinced to give up your information in order to catch the criminals. Some vishing scammers will contact you both on the phone and online, making it look like an urgent matter. To avoid this from happening, don’t trust customer service representatives blindly, don’t open unknown emails, and don’t use your credit card online unless you’ve determined you’re in a secure site.

  1. Pharming

Pharming is another common identity theft scam and it involves using computer code to redirect web traffic to fake sites. This is another type of phishing, but it’s a lot scarier because they don’t even need you to respond for the scam to work.

If your computer is hacked, cyber criminals can easily make changes to your system and send you to a site they can control. To avoid this from happening to you, use firewalls and antivirus software to make sure your computer is always secure. Taking these precautions is vital to avoid identity theft scams, so make sure you get the right software!

Voice activated lighting is possible thanks to smart bulbs, which are voice activated, making lighting control that much easier and convenient. If you want to dim the lights, shut them down and turn them on, all you need to do is say the word and it will be done for you. Smart bulbs pair effortlessly with Google Home apps.

All you’ll need to do is buy them, screw them on, and then they will appear in your app. After that, you’ll be able to enjoy voice activated lighting at home. There are many modes you can configure and you and your family will have a blast using this convenient smart home feature.

  1. Air Purification System

Optimizing the air quality within your home has never been easier. If you want to make sure every breath you take is fresh and healthy, Aura Air will help you do that. This smart home air purification system will allow you to detect Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the air, as well as allergens, smoke, and carbon monoxide.

When detected, the app will launch a purification process tailored to the threat so it can be eliminated for good. This means you won’t have to call a guy or spend extra money making sure the air you breathe at home is clean and healthy. This is particularly useful for people who suffer from allergies or asthma, as it will allow you to control the quality of your air easily.

  1. Home Cameras

Artificial Intelligence is no longer the stuff of science fiction. We already have it in our lives and it helps us make it easier. Voice-enabled devices such as Google Home, Alexa, Amazon Echo, AirPlay and Sonos are great examples of how AI is so present in our daily lives. Now, AI can be even more useful because they can be transformed into smart cameras.

An example of this is smart imaging. Smart imaging allows our smartphone cameras and other mobile devices to recognize foods and even set cooking time or oven temperature so we can heat that particular dish to perfection. Another great feature would be Smoke Detective, which is an app that turns devices with cameras into smoke alarms by using smoke detecting AI algorithms. In other words, the cameras on your mobile devices can be used for a lot more than just taking pictures or recording video!

  1. Get Rid of Porch Pirates

Have you ever ordered something on Amazon only to find that it has been stolen from your porch before you even got a change to know it was there? If the answer is yes and you don’t want this to happen ever again, then you’ll love the Key for Garage application. Video surveillance and doorbell cameras can provide proof if something like this happens to you, but Amazon has taken it one step further. They’ve partnered with the Chamberlain Group to make sure you enjoy theft-proof delivery.

This device can be easily installed in your garage door opener and it will allow delivery people to drop packages inside your garage in a secure way. They won’t have access to your home, only to the garage, and they will close things behind them to make sure your package is safe. The app will also alert you about deliveries, so you always know what’s going on.

How to Maximize Your Sleep With An App

We spend a third of our lives asleep. However, the quality of that sleep can vary from person to person. Some people can sleep only 4 hours and function perfectly while others need a full 8 hours. Some of us sleep soundly, while others wake up several times a night. Some people can’t even sleep properly and they have a hard time finding Morpheus at night.

Whatever the case, the fact is there are many things we can do to maximize our sleep and enjoy the benefits of it. Many of the most common tips include minimizing screen time before bed, minimizing alcohol intake, applying a night time filter on your devices, avoiding heavy meals, avoiding caffeine from 5 pm onward, removing all technology from the bedroom, keeping the house dimly lit at night, meditation, etc.

It’s important that we get from 6 to 10 hours of sleep every night, but proper sleeping habits were nearly impossible to track. Fortunately, we live in the 21st century, and things have changed. Now there’s an app for that! Well, there are hundreds of apps for that, actually.

But Sleep Better stands out from the rest. This simple trick will allow you to maximize your sleep without you having to do anything. The app will do the work for you. It will track your sleep duration, it will monitor your dreams and it will even collect data while you’re awake.

Sleep Better doesn’t need Wi-Fi or data to function and it can work even on airplane mode. It will collect your data effortlessly and present it to you in such a way that’s easy to understand so you can make the most of it and use it to your advantage. You can’t maximize your sleep if you’re not aware of your current sleeping habits, so that’s the first thing you need to do.

The more information you provide, the more accurate the app will be and the better results it will yield. You can let Sleep Better know how much alcohol and caffeine you intake, what your meals are like, and any other factor that can affect the quality of your sleep. You will also be able to track your mood during the day and you will have a dream journal where you can record your dreams.

What this app does is allow you to determine what factors are affecting your sleep and what adjustments to make so you can have a better sleep. Of course, this means you will have to change your habits. That’s easier said than done for some people, but it’s what it takes to get a better night’s sleep.

For example, if you tend to eat sugar or drink too much caffeine after 5 pm, that’s a habit you will need to change in order to improve the quality of your sleep. Sugar and caffeine affect us in a very specific way. You may think it’s harmless to have that ice coffee or a doughnut, but you will find yourself awake in the middle of the night and you won’t know why.

It’s also important to include exercise into your routine. Exercise can energize you, yes, but it will also make you tired. So when it’s time to go to bed, your body will need the rest. If you don’t exercise and you have trouble sleeping, you should start integrating it into your routine. Jogging around the neighborhood is a good start, there are also exercise routines you can follow at home or simply hit the gym for an hour every day.

If you tend to take naps in the afternoon, you will also need to adjust this habit. Your naps shouldn’t be longer than, say, an hour, and they should happen at around 2 pm. If you take a nap at 5pm, you will have a hard time finding your sleep at night. Naps can be refreshing during the day, especially if you have a busy schedule, but remember you shouldn’t get carried away. If you notice that napping truly affects the quality of your sleep, then you should stop altogether.

Start tracking your sleep habits today with Sleep Better and your life will change!

Computer viruses are extremely common and they can infect your computer by something as simple as opening the wrong email or clicking an ad. And once your computer is infected, you have a problem on your hands.

There are over 27 million types of malware out there, so infection is an everyday occurrence for computers. This is where antivirus comes in handy, because it’s the best way to keep your information and your computer protected.

Antivirus software is designed to protect your computer from any kind of virus created by online criminals to access and steal your information. As mentioned above, there are many different types of malware and they go by very different names. However, they all do the same thing: infect your computer and cause trouble.

Antivirus software currently available is well-equipped to fight any kind of malware that might find its way into your computer. In fact, antiviruses are designed to keep out all the most common malware out there. Their goal is simply to find and destroy, and they do this quite effectively and smoothly.

A few years back, antivirus software was very expensive and it was considered a financial burden. However, the evolution of technology has made antivirus software not only better and more effective, but also cheaper. The market is bursting with options to help you keep your devices protected and antivirus nowadays can even be customized.

On average, basic protection for your personal computer will cost you $30 to $50 and it will protect you from common viruses, it will feature firewall, and also protect you when you’re online. But if you don’t know what kind of antivirus software you need, here are the most common types:

  1. Standalone Antivirus Software

Standalone antivirus software is the kind that can detect and get rid of malware from any device, including your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. It runs in the background so it’s constantly vigilant. And if your device is already infected, this kind of antivirus software will allow you run a scan and get rid of it.

5 Vital Tips To Finding The Right Staff For Every Startup

All businesses, no matter how big or small, have one common goal: to expand. Or they should, at least! Even if your business is babysitting; the only way to make more money and be more productive is to grow your client base.

Expanding and growing a business requires a team. Many startups, for example, rely on family members or friends to help them go through their initial staffing period. This is particularly true when you’re in the restaurant business.

The drawback with hiring friends or family is that firing them, if necessary, becomes a bigger issue than it has to be. But before you start working on your firing skills, which is quite an art in itself, you need to work on your hiring skills.

To help you with that, here are 5 vital tips to help you find the right staff for your startup. Consider them and you’ll have a much easier time finding the right people to help you reach your goals and have a more successful business, no matter what it is.

  1. Value Skill Sets More Than Fast Learners

As the owner of a startup, you need your staff to do their job well. This requires training, of course, but your employees should already have a developed skill set you can build upon. This will benefit your business a lot more than people who don’t have a defined skill set and claim to be fast learners. Fast learners are people who will need a lot of help learning what they need to get the job done. This is not something you have time for in the beginning, so go for people with developed skill sets.

  1. Really Analyze Their Resume

If you’re ever written a resume yourself, then you already know people pad it and make it look better than it actually is. As the owner of a startup business, you need to be able to analyze resumes in such a way that you can recognize embellishments. Remember you need people with a skill set you can use, so you must go deep into their resume. When it’s time to meet the candidate, focus on learning about the challenges they’ve encountered. How long they stayed at a job will tell you very little!

  1. Check Their References

Along with their resume, you will need to check their references very carefully. Any candidate worth considering will have references from previous work experiences. So make sure you check them and try to find out more than what they’re telling you. If the references are glowing, then you should be able to confirm the former employee’s thoughts when you speak to them. Pay attention to what they say and don’t say as well!

  1. Your Team’s Opinion Matters

If you already have a small team in your startup business or if you’ve got a business partner, make sure you include them in the hiring process. You can bring them into interviews or ask them to help you go through candidates and choose the ones you’ll call. Either way, make sure you know what they think about the candidates. You want your staff to be a team, and for that to happen they need to get along. Failing to bring your current employees into the hiring process can be a big mistake in the long run.

  1. Put Your New Employees on Probation

Even if your candidates have a great resume and they do amazing in their job interview, there’s still a chance they could fail at the job. This is why you need to out them through a probation period. This is something you need to make clear from the start and the probation period can go from a month to six months. Once they go through probation, you will have enough information. Are they team players? Did they live up to the expectations you had? Do they bring something else to the table? These are questions you need to ask yourself and the answers will determine whether or not they should stay with your startup.

When your startup grows and you need to hire new people, choosing wisely is key!

What To Know About Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is in everyone’s lips, but there are still many people out there who have no idea what it means or what the cloud has to offer. The cloud is viewed by many as a high-technology, remote space that has no relevance in their daily existence.

However, that’s not the case at all. In fact, many people have been using cloud computing technologies for as long as 20 years and they may not even know it. So, before you dismiss the cloud, here are 5 things you should know about cloud computing for better understanding!

  1. It’s Not Something New

Even though cloud computing is a term that’s fairly new, the concept of cloud computing dates back to the early 90s. That’s when ADP started working on a cloud-based, remote payroll system that large organizations could use to manage salaries and benefits more efficiently. This system was stored on remote servers and it could be accessed in the office alone. It was actually the first software as a service application to become mainstream. This means that people might have benefited from the cloud for over two decades without even knowing it.

  1. It’s Everywhere

Cloud computing is actually everywhere, so if you think only IT professionals can make use of it, then you’ve bought into a pretty common misconception. Consider the fact that social media platforms are based on remote servers and you’ll realize cloud computing is everywhere. Every time we access a website or an app, we’re using the cloud. When we use services such as iCloud, Google Photo, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc., we’re using cloud-based services. Even Outlook and Gmail are cloud-based!

  1. It Can Get Foggy Too

The concept of digital fog might be new, but the existence of it in the sphere of cloud computing is quite real and an important part of what makes the cloud so efficient and effective. Fog refers to physical devices that store copies or fragments of cloud-based files. For example, Dropbox. This is a service that allows you to store documents on cloud-based servers but also on your personal computer. The benefit of this is that it allows users to access files quickly and save their data. When it comes to the Internet of Things, the fog allows users to make setting changes and personalize them without having to wait for a remote file to load.

  1. It Delivers More for Less

Cloud computing is all about convenience and adding value to our everyday lives. Consider how much the task of renting a movie has changed because of cloud computing.

Before the cloud became more mainstream, renting a movie required you to drive to a video rental store, hope the movie you wanted to see was in stock, and then rent it so you could see it within a limited period of time. Plus, you had to have a VHS player or a DVD player. Then, you’d have to drive to the store again and bring the movie back.

Now, thanks to cloud computing, you can easily access thousands of movies and TV shows from your mobile devices, laptops, computers and smart TVs with just a few clicks. You can  download a movie to watch in a couple of minutes or you can stream it on platforms such as Netflix or Hulu. The same has happened with many other things and our lives have become easier because of cloud computing in many different ways.

  1. It’s Flexible

Another great thing about cloud computing is how flexible it is. For example, if you wanted to expand the storage on your device, you had to either upgrade or get a hard drive. A few years ago there was no other way to do it. Today, we have the cloud.

If you need more storage, all you need to do is pay for a better cloud storage plan on your preferred provider. If you want to watch something, you don’t have to download it, you can watch it on platforms like Netflix. If you want to listen to music, you can go on YouTube or get a Spotify account. This is how we use cloud computing all the time!

Creating Your Own Website

If you believe you need to be an expert to create your own website, then you’ve bought into one of the most common misconceptions. This is keeping your business from reaching its full potential. Why? Because an online presence is vital. Over 3.7 billion people use the Internet every day. So a website is the most effective way to reach out and connect, so they can buy what you’re selling.

Now, it’s okay to have no idea where to start when it comes to building your own website. The technical aspect of it can be a bit confusing and it might even seem like it’s going to be expensive. But that’s not the case. Here’s what you need to do so you can have a website up and running in no time.

  1. Choose Your Domain Name

Before we get into the technical processes, the first thing you need to do is choose a domain name. A domain name is the name of your website and it’s the web address that people will be able to use to find your site.

The issue here is that most common domains are already taken. So, if you want one of those, you’ll have to bid for them to buy them. However, you can always choose to be original and come up with a unique domain name no one has. Just keep in mind that it should be easy to remember, easy to type and relevant to what your business is all about.

Once you have it, you’ll need to purchase it, which will cost you around $10 a year. Some of the best sites you can do this on are Namecheap, Gandi, Name, Go Daddy and 1&1.

  1. Look For a Host Provider

For your site to be up and running, you need servers. That’s where host providers come in. They will store your website’s files and handle the traffic of your website so you don’t have to build your own servers. You can rent server space from your domain name provider as well, but here are a few additional options to consider: Bluehost, GoDaddy, DreamHost, and Liquid.

Host providers charge a monthly or yearly fee and they have many different plans you can use. These plans can be basic or premium, and they will cover different needs. Make sure you do your research so you hire the best plan for you!

  1. Design Your Website

Believe it or not, you don’t need to know code to design your own website. There are many tools out there that will allow you to build and design your website easily. These tools are usually drag-and-drop, meaning you’ll have templates to choose from and you’ll be able to move things around however you see fit.

Some of the best drag-and-drop platforms to build and design your website are: Wix, Weebly, Squarespace, Vood, Yola, Strikingly, and IM Creator, among others. These websites make it incredibly easy for you to build your own space without having to outsource the work if you don’t have the means. When your business grows, you’ll be able to find someone to upgrade your website if you wish, but this is a great way to get started.

Or you could simply use WordPress! WordPress is a popular option for many people out there. It’s a comprehensive website builder and it’s self-hosted as well. WordPress can be a little bit tricky to understand, but they offer all the tools you need to create your own website and you’ll have complete control.

WordPress is free to use, which is great for startups on a budget, but they also offer paid alternatives. For example, you can purchase themes, plugins, templates, and more to design your website. Hosting is also free on this platform, but it’s limited, so as your site grows, you’ll need to start paying for packages.

In WordPress you’ll be able to register a domain name, purchase hosting, and design your website, all in one place. That’s why so many people prefer it, and it’s no wonder. For some people it can be a challenge to figure out WordPress because there are so many features available, but it will be worth it in the end! Plus, there are many guides and resources online to help you understand.
